Pots. Plants. PotsPlants.

Intricately made

PotsPlants was designed and made by two information architects. From left to right: Anita Olsson and Eric Malmström.

Using their backgrounds in software development and interaction design they came up with the idea of PotsPlants. A product which detects when its time for someone to change the pot their plant is in due to it having outgrown its pot, or the pot being damaged

Works

The Design of Potplants

Using sensors on the edges of the pot it detects when the roots of the pot have reached the edge of the pot. Using a mathmatical formula to determine when the pot has to be changed

  • WC: Current weight of the plant with dirt (after some growth).
  • FC: Current force extracted on the pot (due to root expansion or weight).
  • WT: Maximum weight the pot can support before it needs to be replaced.
  • FT: Maximum force the pot can withstand before it needs to be replaced.

Tips for the Game

  • Dont forget to water your plant, it might die if not watered!
  • Be on the lookout for the sensor that tells you that its time to change pots!
